What to do?

Winter in the Boise area is full of options. If you head north of Boise for about ½ hour to 45 minutes you can be in the snow filled mountains to enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, or any other winter sport. If you head ½ hour to 45 minutes south you will find yourself in the desert, which rarely has snow and if you want to brave the cold you can bike out there. Or you can stick close to Boise for a hike or even a mountain bike ride. Well, the past three weekends I went to the north and snowshoed, and the week before that I was able to mountain bike in the foothills.

This weekend I wiped the dust off my motorcycle and headed out to the desert. The conditions were great. A little mud on the trails and a balmy 38 degrees.

Snowshoeing

The family and I went snowshoeing this weekend above Idaho City. The kids did great!! They were tough little troopers. We hiked up the “Woop-Em Up“ trail. It had snowed quite a bit over the last week and no one else had been there, which meant we had to break trail through 12 to 18 inches of snow. Once we reached the top Magan showed the kids how to “fall” in the snow and make snow angles.

The Music Lives On

This week has been a musical adventure for me with the release of Led Zeppelin's "Mothership" album, which is essential a greatest-hits album. All the tunes, however, have been digitally remastered. I have looked forward to the commute each morning and afternoon to listen. I have not heard many of the songs since I played them in my cassette deck. Each song brings back a load of memories!

Saturday Fun

The family and I dodged the rain showers on Saturday to go play in the dirt with the Stewarts. We had fun racing around the little motorcycle tracks and being outside.

Boy's Weekend

Last weekend Magan took the kids to Utah, which meant one thing for me - boys weekend. It started off early Friday morning. I skipped work to take Mitch to Stanley to introduce him to some of Idaho's finest Mountain Biking terrain. It was a chilly, clouding morning on the drive over, but no precipitation. We stopped in Stanley for a $.50 hot dog and bathroom relief before hitting the trails. The the store clerk commented to me it was snowing like crazy in Sun Valley, but she reassured me that at times it doesn't come over the mountain to the Stanley basin. She was wrong!! As soon as we unloaded the bikes the snow started to fall. That didn't stop us though. We pedaled through it, at times stopping to ask ourselves if it was worth it to keep going. The snow piled up on us as we climbed higher, but we kept going. By the time we reached the top there was a couple of inches of snow on the trail. The decent was a little slower than normal, but it still made for an epic ride.

The next day, despite being a little stiff from the mountain biking, I meet up with my friend, Brian, for a day of dirt biking. We headed to the Owyhee Mountains, where we decided to do a destination ride the the old mining town of Silver City, Idaho. We traveled over all types of terrain, trails and road to get there. We stopped in Silver City for some sub-par lunch at the Silver City Hotel, which was built in the 1870s. Brian and I got so caught up in the the riding that neither one of us snapped any pics!

As soon I returned home I picked up Mitch and we ended the day eating a "man" size meal at the Eagle Rib Shack.

I truly missed the family. After all, it is hard to give yourself a message at the end of the day!!!
